Special Purpose

I have started reading Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life as part of a program at my Roman Catholic Church; rather incongruous, I know. I've read half of it before, but never finished; typical of my underachieving self.

We met last night to organize groups and layout basic ground rules. PDL has a journal that goes along with it, and the leader suggested writing in the margins and highlighting text. I decided to use this blog for my journaling. This will be a true test to see if I have the discipline to read a chapter everyday and make a daily blog entry. Looking at the number of entries in this blog, it is obvious I am not consistent at this type of thing.

I actually read the first chapter this morning before getting out of bed and it is only 9am as I am typing this entry. However, I should be working. That's it, too fast out of the blocks and burn up before getting started. "It's better to burn out, than fade away." Def Leppard.

It's not about you. So what is it about? The answer, of course, is 42. Now I have to figure out the question. I agree with and understand PDL's first chapter, but it is still so whitebread, so exclusory. That whole facet will ride along with me as I focus on my purpose, and as with finding most solutions, the spare parts seem to find a place as it all comes together. I believe Jesus is the son of God. I have a problem with the requisite knowledge of Jesus to enter eternal salvation. If you know Jesus is the son of God, and turn your back; then there is a problem. What about a devout Jew, Buddhist, pagan, and even a jihadist Muslim that has never had knowledge of Jesus and follows the teachings handed down to him, pardon the pun, religiously? Now I realize in the new, small world, it is hard to not have knowledge of Jesus and other faiths. However, it's not about you, it's not only about now. What about 100 years ago.

I'll never make 40 days if all my entries are this long...work calls.
